The Heart-Head Connection: Heart Disease and…Ears?2016/02/08 at 12:57 PM
Find out if a small crease on your ear could have anything to do with heart disease.
Do you have “Frank’s Sign”? Look in the mirror to find out. The crease in the earlobe is a predictor for Coronary Artery Disease.
Enough studies have established a connection between earlobe creases and heart disease that it’s worth taking a wrinkle on your ear seriously. Check with your doctor first. They’ll most likely test your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and other risk factors. Taking everything — including your ears — into account will create a clear overall picture of your risk and determine what steps you can take to protect your heart health.
“Frank’s Sign is therefore considered as a marker of the coronary disease, independent of risk factors but frequently associated with them. If its absence does not permit in any way to exclude the diagnosis of coronary disease, its presence corresponds in three quarters of the cases to an established coronary disease within a symptomatic population.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3827155

We are now offering in-office A1C Testing (Glycated Hemoglobin)2016/02/08 at 1:06 PM
The A1C test can be done by our office with a simple finger stick blood test, with results in 5 minutes. An A1C score between 6-7 could be an indication of pre-diabetes. Since we often see patients more than their doctors, we feel offering this valuable service in our office that can help us determine if further testing should be done by a physician. The health of the mouth is often a warning sign that something else is going on within the body.
When your blood sugar spikes, it puts a little spot on your blood or hemoglobin. The % of your hemoglobin that is glycated is the best measure of your average blood sugar over a 2-3 month period. The inflammatory chemicals produced by periodontal disease affect blood sugar control and can double the chance of developing diabetes. Removing the gum infection can improve your blood sugar control if you are a diabetic or prevent you from becoming diabetic if you are pre-diabetic.
Do you suffer from sensitive teeth?2016/02/08 at 1:07 PM
Our practice is introducing a new FDA approved product called “Silver Diamine Fluoride” that is clinically used to help sensitivity and possibly stop tiny cavities from growing. This clear solution is easily brushed on the teeth in the office and has amazing abilities to instantly stop those troublesome sensitive areas on teeth. Several of our office team members have tried it and noticed an immediate decrease in our sensitive spots to air and cold. I would recommend this to people who suffer from tooth sensitivity during their dental hygiene visits, when eating ice cream, or simply breathing in the winter air.

We are so excited to announce we now have the VELscope Vx!
Introducing the VELscope® Vx Enhanced Oral Assessment System
It centers on a wireless, handheld scope that uses natural tissue fluorescence visualization to help clinicians see oral mucosal abnormalities that might otherwise have been overlooked.
The VELscope Vx offers hope for the early discovery of oral disease, including precancer and cancer, while it’s still easy to treat.
Risk Factors: Tobacco and chewing tobacco, along with alcohol, and are the leading causes of oral cancer. Over the last four decades, the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), known for its role in cervical cancer, has been showing up in increasing numbers of oral cancer cases.
